Album Review: Kiss (Carly Rae Jepsen album)

Kiss (Standard Edition Cover)

The follow-up of her 2008 debut, Tug of War, is disco-teen-pop leaving behind her folk and acoustic roots. After the success of "Call Me Maybe" and "Good Time," she finally released her first international major album. The album sounds like it was recorded by a Disney star around 17 years old. Well, it's quite opposite of the real things because she is no Disney and she is 10 years older than what we expected. Talking about the whole album, Kiss is a great pop record. What is admirable is her emotive vocal performance on some of her songs, such as More Than a Muemory. Although, I'm quite disappointed with the remix of the Curiosity because I admire her first version. Now, it was too pop with heavy synths that drowns her aching vocal performance. Beautiful, that features Justin Bieber, is relaxing after a series of bouncy beats and synths. Most of the songs are following the sweetness of Call Me Maybe but none of those equal the catchiness of the song. I appreciate the disco song Tiny Little Bows for its interpolation of the Cupid which actually fits its 80s vibes. Kiss is a pop album and one of the sweetest ever which gives you a nice treat.

Korean Class 2: The Performance

Last semester, our seonsaengnim (Teacher in Korean) asked us to perform a Korean song. We can choose if we do it by individual, pairs, or groups. Our group, The Gorgeous Dollars, performed together on the said event. Upon the song selection, we intended to perform a medley wherein each of us will choose an individual song then at the end perform a single group song. That was an epic fail because we did not have much time to memorize and search for the individual song. Finally, we selected "Balloons" by TVXQ. We tried to copy the steps as much as possible. We got a 100 points for that and Jessica Marie was exempted of the final examination.
